The 10 best croissants in Gulf Shores (2024)

Sunliner Diner is a 50s-style diner in downtown Gulf Shores that serves up classic diner fare like burgers, shakes and sandwiches all day long. The retro atmosphere and golden oldies playing on the jukebox will take you right back to the good ol' days. There's also a kids' menu available here.

Love the exterior and interior of this place. Very very super friendly staff I have seen in a long time. So I had an Irish cream hot coffee and The Avocado Benedict. Delicious especially with the sauce. Which I was concerned on me getting it on there. The waitress we had made sure they put it on the side and when I did try it, it made the flavors blend perfectly together.

My kids saw this place as we were driving into Gulf Shores and couldn't wait to visit. This 50's themed diner didn't disappoint. From the decor to the staff to the food and service, everything was excellent. 50s cars and neon lights greet you from outside, and inside was just as cool. We're they busy? Yes, slammed busy and we still received a table in a timely manner and the service was on point! The food is very large portions and the pricing isn't bad considering the portion size. That being said, if you have kids, they may want to share or get a take home box!We would definitely visit this diner again, next time at gulf shores.

If one could rate this amazing restaurant/diner with a 10, I would!Staying in Foley Beach, AL until Sunday July 23. Have had breakfast here our two first mornings! Hard to stay away! ❣️Today this very talented waitress allowed me to record her singing along one of the oldies playing! This is a great place for 50-60's era!

I’d give them 5 stars. We were seated right away. The food was good and served promptly. I had an avocado egg Benedict with grits. I liked the environment. It was nice to step back in the time.

Who doesn't love a good diner? The Sunliner is wonderful! The food was awesome, and the 50s atmosphere was perfect! This place is huge! One of the only places around with no wait! My wife and inlaws had the fish and chips, and I had the Jukebox burger and fries! When a meal description has "if you finish it" in it, you know I have to try! I can't wait to come back here!

Our server, Natisha looked the part and provided great service! The atmosphere was as amazing! It looked cool, it felt cool, it felt authentic. The food was out of this world! Everyone in our party of 8 raved about the taste of our food, all of us eating something different. The cost was reasonable and the quantity of the food for the price was great! I loved every single thing about it!! We will definitely make this a destination when we come back to Gulf Shores!

My daughter and I tried to have breakfast on our last day of vacation. Showed up 15 minutes before opening so we were some of the first people in.When sitting down I noticed that the table had not been wiped well, but gave them the benefit of the doubt and just cleanup the leftover syrup on the table. Shortly after we opened our silverware only to find it was dirty too.We ordered after a short delay with no concerns. After waiting they dropped off one of our two orders, but with the wrong sides. After 5-10 minutes the waitress (who had been MIA) came over and mentioned that the order was wrong. After some more time they brought the correct sides, but still hadn’t brought my meal. After 5-10 more minutes they bring the entirely wrong meal to me. By this time we are 30-40 minutes into things and my daughter is mostly done eating. After another delay the waitress came around and I ended up just canceling my meal all together. They did apologize and did not charge us for the meal we did get. That said, our overall experience was abysmal. Dirty facility and poor quality service with workers who in general have a vibe of not wanting to be there at all.Not a pleasant experience and I would not recommend it at all.

This will be a fair and honest review from my point of view. Hands down the BEST fried green tomatoes I’ve ever had-thank God we're locals because I’ll be back for more! 3 of us dined here this evening and as we entered I was dazzled by the amazing decor & music, UNFORTUNATELY the hostess wasn’t kind which is a shame because she’s the first face guests see when they walk in-a simple smile goes a long way. She ignored me when I said “hi” as I entered. We were seated promptly which was nice, but again she ignored me when I said “thank you”. Alicia was our waitress and she made up in kindness where the hostess lacked. The restaurant dining area was clean, the atmosphere is SO SO fun and so are the menu options, Fried Green Tomatoes were AMAZING, the Old Fashioned Root-beers were too strong for my husband and son but I thought they were tasty, the Meatloaf plate was good, and the Oreo Shake was great! I won’t review my husbands or sons dinner order, they will do that on their own if they choose to. So here’s the bottom line: overall the atmosphere and decor was SO fun, if you nit pick the food then you’re not going get the most out of your experience because the menu options are SO fun. Is it the best food I’ve ever had? No, but what restaurant meets those standards- the food is good and you’ll leave happy if you don’t nit pick it. The prices are a bit high for what you get but hey, this is a tourist attraction area and you’re also paying for the atmosphere so I feel all-in-all it’s fair. Again, you can make the most or the least of this place as you want. We chose to have fun and be together…we’ll be back and I will revise my review accordingly, if the hostess issue is resolved-she’s the reason I scored this place only 3 stars.

The Sunliner Diner is honestly one of our favorite spots to eat. Not only does it have great 1950’s music and a fun decor, the food is also very good. Some of the staff are really into the diner experience making it even better. The prices are reasonable and they have a very wide selection. If you get a chance to sit in the old car to eat grab the opportunity. A fun spot to eat or even just grab a drink.

The Sunliner Diner was like going back in time, in a clean, updated setting. Our server was so kind. The waffles classic meal was a great deal: fabulous waffle, eggs, meat & hash browns. We also ordered shakes, they were large and a great deal. The area was light and bright. There was even a 4 person table available in a red corvette, would be fun to try sitting there sometime again.

I loved my first experience here. First of all, it's clean. Super clean. Everything has a place and is in its place. Tables are well attended to, too.The theme is just a fav of mine. The 50's diner isn't very popular anymore and when we cruised past this diner, we knew we just had to stop. We weren't even all that hungry!!We thought we would share an app (loaded fries) and a dessert (banana split). Oh my gosh, they were outstanding comfort foods. The banana split was so fresh and the ice cream itself was of quality, too. The different fruit toppings throughout added a pleasant amount of flavor boosts without adding too much sweetness. The fries. Oh my. They were just sinful and incredibly indulgent. I am not a queso fan in general. But this queso was perfect. It wasn't too overbearing or heavy as it was poured over the crispy fries. The jalapeños were definitely present and easily removed when a break was needed from the heat. Order these fries! You may wonder why I put the dessert first in this review. Well, that's because that is how it was served and I am not sure why. :)If you see their neon. Just stop in. It's worth a visit.

Stepping into this diner is like stepping back in time. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with classic decor and friendly service that evokes a sense of nostalgia. The menu offers all the diner staples, but with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. The avocado burger was a standout – perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The combination of avocado, crispy bacon, and juicy patty was pure deliciousness. The fish and chips were another unexpected delight. The fish was flaky and perfectly battered, and the fries were crispy and golden. But the true star of the show was the banana split shake. This decadent concoction was a milkshake masterpiece, a perfect blend of creamy vanilla ice cream, ripe bananas, and sweet toppings. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal.In short, this diner is a gem that offers a delicious and authentic experience. From the atmosphere to the food, it's a place that will transport you back to a simpler time.

Our first trip to the diner was so fun! This place is a throw back to a simpler time! Our waitress, Suga, looked and acted the part! She is also a very talented singer! I got the club and it was cooked to perfection. The candied bacon was a yummy surprise. Husband got the Reuben and he said it was one of the best he's ever eaten. Great experience all around!

One of the best experiences I’ve had eating a burger. The entire atmosphere is spot on 50’s. The staff was quick, attentive, and the uniforms they all wore was very cool. I don’t normally leave reviews, but for Sunliner diner and the staff I left full, smiling and impressed with the visit. Thank you Luis you have a great crew!

An experience not to miss. Waffles were perfect, so perfect they were gone before I thought to take a picture. Bloody Mary was tasty. Atmosphere...reminiscent of days gone by, but updated. Go, even if it's just once.

I've been there twice. Once for my birthday, and recently on a date. Loved the food and the milkshake!! We had a very nice waiter who checked up on us a couple of times. I also love the theme of this diner with the vintage cars, newspaper menu, and making you feel like you went through a time machine to the 20th century. It's a very cute and aesthetically-pleasing atmosphere.

This place is so good. I thought since the atmosphere was great the food would be mediocre. But my burger was so very good. Everyone I was with liked their food as well. My avocado burger has a half an avocado which was very nice. Most places give you a few slices. Our service was wonderful too! And the 50s theme was so fun. Go here!

We went for my son's 6th birthday. Everyone there was so accommodating. They allowed us to sit in the special car booth, and my son absolutely loved it. The burgers looked like pictures in a magazine, and tasted just as great. The milkshake was fantastic, and paired quite nicely with his chicken and waffles. Overall, it was a great experience.

Enjoyed a fabulous lunch on a slow off season Thursday. Had heard about the candied bacon that was a must taste. It lived up to the hype, and was some of the best bacon I've ever tasted. Not only did we enjoy the candied bacon, yet a club sandwich, bacon double cheeseburger, onion rings, fries, and a delicious chocolate malt shake. Awesome vibe with the classic diner feel. Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend and will return next time we're in Gulf Shores.

I really wanted to like this place. The theme is so fun and the service was great. The food however was not good. I got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. None of it was very good. When the food came out the gravy looked like it had been sitting for a while but that was the best tasting thing on the plate. The potatoes were ok, but not much to them. My daughter had a burger & fries, cooked very well done. The chocolate chair she had was fantastic and it came with a waffle, also fantastic. So if you want a great shake, this is your place. Not so much the food.

In 2018, we discovered this diner by mistake (we didn’t know where to eat and parked in the first place available) since then, we have gone to eat here every family vacation. Amazing food, amazing atmosphere but most importantly amazing STAFF!!! The only down side is that we don’t have one in Texas, but we are thrill to come to gulf shore every time! We love it.
