If you love Jalapeño Poppers, then this Jalapeño Popper Dip recipe will be your appetizer soul mate. I mean when you combine a bunch of cheese, fresh jalapeños and crunchy bread crumbs, what’s not to love?

I haven’t always loved jalapeños but a few years ago I became obsessed with jalapeño poppers. Every time I see them on a menu somewhere, I order them. There’s really no beating the spice of the peppers with the creaminess of the cheese. It’s a flavor profile dream come true and one that many people love – even if they don’t specifically love jalapeños. (Although, I do confess I now love a good pickled jalapeno too.)

The spice level

This is a spicy recipe and I just want you to understand that if you are not a fan of spice. However, there are a few things you can do to either lessen the spice or increase it. I give a range of 4-6 jalapeños for my Jalapeño Popper Dip recipe because you can use 4 if you prefer less spice and 6 if you prefer more. You can also leave the seeds in or remove the seeds. Leaving the seeds in will give you a very spicy dip. I generally go with about 5 jalapeños but remove all the seeds from the mix.

The cheeses

There are a lot of different cheeses in this recipe and that is one of the the things I think makes it so good. Like many of my dips, there is a cream cheese base for the Jalapeño Popper Dip recipe. Then I have also included gouda, mozzarella and cheddar. The cheese combination really helps to make it all stand out. However, I do suggest buying the cheese in blocks and grating it because it will be the freshest and the bagged cheese does not melt as well.

Dipping options

The Dipping options for my Jalapeño Popper Dip recipe are endless. I’ve found that I like to serve this with a variety of things from veggies to carbs. Most people love regular tortilla chips, but I like serving raw veggies with this is a great opportunity to add some crunch and fresh flavors. I specifically love eating this with freshly cut carrots from the garden or some fresh, orange peppers.

On the go and make ahead

One of the things I love most about this recipe is that you can take it with you. If you’re going to a party and need to bring an appetizer, then you can make the mixture ahead of time and place it in a portable baking dish to bake on site. Just keep the topping separate from the cheese mixture until you’re ready to bake.

This also works well if you’re hosting at home too. When you’re the host it can often be really stressful to make everything at the same time and make sure it all comes out right. With the Jalapeño Popper Dip recipe, you can make it ahead of time and then just pop it all in the oven when you’re ready. I just suggest making the Panko topping right before serving it and adding it before the dip goes into the oven.

Tips for making my Jalapeño Popper Dip recipe

  • This recipe will make about double what you see in the photographs. It is a recipe for 8-10 people to share as an appetizer so if you do not want that much, feel free to cut the recipe in half.
  • Even if you leave the seeds out of the dip itself, remember that jalapeños are spicy so this dip will be spicy. The recipe calls for 4-6 jalapeños but that is taste dependent. If you prefer less spice, go with 4. If you are a true jalapeno lover, go with six. You can use the seeds or discard them.
  • I suggest using a cheese grater and grating the cheeses from blocks. It can be a pain but it is really the freshest way to get shredded cheese. I have an old school cheese grater but if you love cheese as much as I do, something like this {HERE} might work better. I’m considering buying that as I type. It would make this cheese lovers life easier.
  • I made this in this 10.25 Cast Iron Skillet {HERE}. Again this will fit about half the dip. Or you can use any baking dish you have. I also enjoy using my Staub oval baking dishes {HERE} for my dips because I like the handles. They’re easy to cover and carry.
  • If you want to make this recipe ahead of time, you can. I suggest making the cream cheese part of the recipe in advance if you want but waiting until before cooking to make the Panko topping.
  • To save my Jalapeño Popper Dip recipe, you can place it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about two days. Reheat it at 350 degrees int he oven for about 15-20 minutes or in the microwave for about 1 minute and 30 seconds. Microwaves times will vary.

Ingredients

Ingredients for the Jalapeno Popper Dip

  • 4 - 6 diced jalapeños Seeds removed or left in based on preference
  • 2 8 oz packages of cream cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup gouda cheese
  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 3/4 cup mild cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
  • 3 green onions, chopped with the white bottoms separated from the green tops
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Panko Bread Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup plain Panko breadcrumbs
  • 3/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • 4 tbsp butter

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • In a large bowl, mix together your softened cream cheese, mayo and sour cream. Combine well. You can use a mixer if you want but I just usually use a spoon. You just have to make sure the cream cheese is soft enough.

  • Add in jalapeños, bacon, white bottoms of the green onions and the mozzarella, smoked paprika, garlic powder, gouda and cheddar.

  • In a separate bowl, mix together your Panko bread crumbs, butter and parmesan cheese.

  • Add your cream cheese mixture to a baking dish or a cast iron skillet. If using a cast iron skillet, heat it up in the oven for about 10 minutes before adding the cheese mixture. Just remember to use an oven mitt when handling the cast iron skillet.

  • Level the mixture out with a spoon and then top generously with the Panko mixture. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the Panko topping is golden brown.

  • When it’s done, add a few jalapeno to the top and then sprinkle on the tops of the green onions. Serve immediately with chips, crackers, bread or vegetables
