Look it's what the title says I have no idea what I'm doing. I thought this was gonna be like PoE 1 but this game just threw in multi classing and every character build I look at Online just gives me solo play multi class builds referencing specific items and things that I don't know about. Plz help what should I do? I wanted to play as a pirate like character since we sailing in this game but I don't know how to do that. I'm also fine with being a Cipher or a Monk.

but like I just need help I don't know what I'm doing and all the online material is confusing and talking to me like I understand what 2 + 2 is 🥺

So you want a pirate type character who's also a cipher or monk? Or a pirate type multiclass or a single class cipher or monk?

All classes work perfectly well single-classed, too. Some are "better" relative to others, but it's never outright bad or anything. Don't feel like you have to MC your character.

Ideally I'll pick any build that lets me hit stuff with a sword and gun while wearing a pirate hat. If such a thing is not easy or possible I'd settle for a straight forward Cipher or Monk build

I beat the game with a solo character on the hardest difficulty. With the help of that forum. People there are amazing and willing to help.

Fighter/rogue is pretty straight forward, can do all of that, and is called a swashbuckler to boot. Take the Blackjacket fighter subclass and you can rock entire braces of pistols, too.I think that'd be a decent starting point. Just don't do it if you're trying to min/max anything - sword/pistol isn't really "meta" or anything as far as builds go.

The downside I guess is that you kinda step on Eder's toes, but you could just make him a straight fighter and have him take hits again or something.

I also don't really agree with this. The game is so lenient in terms of builds that unless you're playing on PotD or with some challenges enabled then you should try to build what you think would be a cool character. MCing just means you have some more reading and planning to do.

Black jacket fighters can hold extra weapons, you can hold all the guns!

And there are several pirate hats anyone can equip. Just don't play a Godlike character.

If you play on Classic or Easy difficulty you don't need a build or guide. You literally can't fuck up your character so bad you can't finish the game, Pillars is designed to make that basically impossible. Have fun

Monks are overpowered, i think it's the only class in the game that can beat solo all mega boss end game battles.
If you are making a monk, might is really important.

Rogue/Cipher could work pretty well too. Blunderbuss is good for generating Focus and a Rapier/Saber for if people get too close. Then you can use your Cipher abilities to mess shit up with powers and then Rogue provides you with Sneak Attack bonuses for flanked enemies and what not and also going invisible if you want to be real sneaky for even more dmg and just mild attack avoidance.

But yeah Pillars is super forgiving so you really can't go wrong if you just go with your gut with whatever you think might be a cool combo. You may not have a super optimal build, but it's exceedingly hard to make a really bad one, there's pretty much always a way to make whatever you come up with viable and decent.

What difficulty are you considering? If it's Classic or easier, you can wield a sword and gun with any class or multi-class without fear of being under-powered.

Melee and offhand-ranged is tough to min/max for, but you could consider Paladin with Flames of Devotion if the following is accurate: IIRC, using this ability from a distance will trigger with the pistol, so you'll be benefiting from a hefty accuracy bonus and bonus fire damage. Great way to start a fight.

See I don't want to but I can't find any build guides that aren't multi classes built for solo mode. So I'm a little stuck I genuinely don't want to do it since the game flat out said "don't do it you are new" but I'm struggling to find a resource that I can rely/read on to learn how the game works and what I should build.

I was there earlier actually! I hadn't thought of making an account there tho. I may try that!

I was all in on this suggestion as I don't mind not min/maxing on a first play through. But I gotta draw the line if I'm stepping on my boy Eder's toes.

I mean I'm only half serious. There's plenty of room available even to have two Swashbucklers, even more since Eder can also be a single class rogue or fighter. He'll understand, he's a bro like that.

My first play-through I went for a super fun build to play that I found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClkUHCETNUph8vM-4gQpwUA He's got a ton of youtube video tutorials on builds, including guides ot multi-classing. Highly recommend him. He should have a playlist with his pillars 2 content.

For my first play-through I made a character that dual wielded two pistols She was a blackjacket IIRC. She had all weapons slots unlocked after a few levels and each slot was packed with dual pistols, except for the last one that had dual weapons, rapier and dagger. So super swashbuckler.

In combat I opened up with my two pistols, then I switched to my second set and fired with those, then my third set and fired those, then finally switched to melee weapons. Man it was so satisfying to see enemies melt with the opening salvos.

I wish there was some sort of export character feature in the game so I could share her. She was so damn cool.... now I'm itching to play more. Damn you OP.
