Welcome to the 2022 Fantasy Football Week 8 Defense Stream-O-Matic!
According to Yahoo Fantasy Football transaction trends, the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles (now 92% rostered) were the top three defenses added after waivers cleared.
Indy was added because of their matchup vs Taylor Heinicke and the Washington Commanders who have allowed the fifth most Fantasy points to opposing defenses. They have yet to allow fewer than six points against them. Yannick Ngakoue leads the team with 3.5 sacks while DeForest Buckner and Kwity Paye have three sacks of their own.
The Titans face the Houston Texans who also have yet to allow fewer than six Fantasy points against them and have yet to score more than 24 points in a game. Denico Autry leads the team with five sacks while Jeffery Simmons (4.5) and Rashad Weaver have four of their own. LB David Long leads the team with two interceptions.
If the Eagles were available in your league, they were worth using your waiver priority on. Fresh off their bye week their next four games are against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Texans, Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts. Haason Reddick has led the pass rush with 4.5 sacks while C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Darius Slay each have three interceptions.

Scoring
I use a traditional rotisserie scoring style commonly used in fantasy baseball season-long leagues to give point totals to each team.
Categories
The categories for the chart are listed below along with links to websites that I use to find this data.
- Rost%/Start%: Roster percentages based on Yahoo Fantasy Football leagues. This gives us an idea of who is available. This doesn’t factor into the standings.
- Location (Home): Generally speaking, defenses play better at home than on the road. A five-point bonus is given to all home teams.
- Vegas (Opp Implied): UsingVegas odds, the spread and over/under generate an implied points total for each team. This game score portrays what the game flow could look like and, therefore, which Fantasy Football defenses are in a good position to succeed.
- Pressure (Opp Prs%):Thanks toPro Football Reference, we have access to advanced passing statistics. I focused on pressure percentages allowed here which includes QB hurries, hits and sacks.
- DVOA: Probably the most popular tool for evaluating defenses, the DVOA efficiency ratings are utilized to give a strong baseline to the rankings. We are now using Weighted DVOA!
- Proj: I used Yahoo Week 8 projections for this column. It is added as a bonus and not scored like roto for all the other columns.
